I always need to do a little, “d0-able” project when I’m beginning a huge project (like the kitchen!) to get me motivated. I thought this little nook above the desk in the kitchen would be a perfect start. I’m not sure what it was originally used for~cookbooks? canisters? holding a big old boombox?

The first step was to sand, prime and paint it. I used Zinsser’s oil based primer, Lowe’s Kitchen & Bath Enamel color matched to Benjamin Moore White Dove. (much more to come on the whole painting process…promise!)
Then, I used some leftover beadboard wallpaper from the laundry room in Texas to apply to the back and sides of this mysterious box above the desk. I used the same method as I did here.

As you can see, the corners and top didn’t look too pretty, but nothing that a little caulk can’t fix:march 2011 007 1
Run a little bead of caulk along the space you want to fill in with your caulk gun, then shmear/smooth it out with your finger.

Let it dry, paint over the wallpaper and the caulk, and then add accessories (my favorite part!)
may 2011 014 1 It gives me hope for the rest of the kitchen when I have a little spot that’s completely finished…
Happy Monday!
