iron on fun for friday

27 February 2009

I wanted to make a cute, unique baby gift for a friend of mine and had seen some adorable creations around blogosphere with fabric paint and iron-ons, and wanted to try my hand at it. So, I took a 48 cent Old Navy shirt from their last clearance sale~they were marked .97, and then half off that~can you believe it?? Look at the tag to see for yourself....

I found a font I loved at dafont.com, downloaded it for free, and made it a cute pink color. The font name is mkbats. Print it out backwards~for my printer, I just clicked on the printing preferences, clicked advanced, and where it said mirror image I clicked yes. Cut it out, then follow the directions for ironing it on.
m is for magic! I love it!
It was so cute, I had to try a boy one! If you use the + symbol, it will make a star. I thought the camo green would be perfect for this one.

This is super important: I have to show you what happened my first tries when I used the transfer paper from Hobby Lobby~see all of the faded, awful letters?? Don't waste your money...
Now look at the perfect "m" in the right hand corner. That was my first try with Avery brand transfer paper. I had given up, then remembered Wendy at the Shabby Nest is iron on queen, so I asked her and she said to try Avery. I love you, Wendy! I should have just asked you first. Oh well, now you all know and won't make the same mistake. Practice on an old shirt first.
You can get it at Wal-mart in the printer paper aisle, or my Sam's Club even had it. Follow the directions exactly, and you'll be set.

So, there it is. Have a great weekend~go iron on something! :)
